I would note that in addition to what comes from Social Psychology there are relevant findings that Social Psych leverages from Cognitive Psychology and Decision Science.
For example, experimental results rom Tversky and Kahneman as far back as 75 indicating several types of cogntive biases which produced poor judgements. They attributed these to one of three main heuristics they formulate as: representativeness (judgments influenced by what is typical so it can be a group effect), availability (judgments based on what come easily to mind, which may be because someone just set an idea in your mind), or anchoring and adjustment (judgments relying on what comes first).

Gary Berg-CrossGary Berg-Crosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00104267265989624672noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5788854.post-73872774089341470432010-02-12T20:22:46.602-08:002010-02-12T20:22:46.602-08:00Try out Edublogs. http://edublogs.org/Try out Edublogs. http://edublogs.org/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5788854.post-67084969368232286272010-01-19T16:51:17.330-08:002010-01-19T16:51:17.330-08:00I Have A Problem, My Child loves to type and she&#...I Have A Problem, My Child loves to type and she's 9 and a half. I'm glad that you are reading the book and that you read my notes and are challenging my reading.

It's been a few months since I read Sway and so at this point I may be misremembering exactly how they described "value attribution". I recall they start with some economic behavior, but start ascribing biases and judgments of people or object in a non-economic way to "value attribution".

Once I finished reading the book, the Brafman definition of "value attribution" seemed like an amalgamation of ascribing impressions without taking in the full circumstances (the underlying problem of fundamental attribution error) and ignoring evidence that counters those impression (confirmation bias).

So you are right, in thinking about economics, there is a difference (I have since read Predictably Irrational by Dan Airley and recommend it if you are interested in the economic aspects of first impressions). I found the application of "value attribution" to personal and social behavior less valuable than more formally and narrowly defined concepts.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01008184599324923996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5788854.post-61439630652560382372009-10-01T22:38:45.595-07:002009-10-01T22:38:45.595-07:00I have started reading the book (Sway) but " ...I have started reading the book (Sway) but " Fundamental Attribution Error" is anything but "value attribution" as specified in the book. However, since I originally wrote this, there have been some blogging services for classroom teachers which seems to fit a similar goal as you: the child has a great deal of control over their own blog, but there is a level of supervision and control above that. You might find this works for you as a classroom of one.

Have you checked out Edublogs yet? http://edublogs.org

I'd love to hear back from you so please come back and post or drop me a direct email at scott||at||phoom||dot||comScotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01008184599324923996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5788854.post-89911053251987658302009-07-08T20:26:49.684-07:002009-07-08T20:26:49.684-07:00My problem with most of the blogging sites out the...My problem with most of the blogging sites out there is that, for each and every one that I can find, there is no way to have top-level admin belonging to the parent, but still allow a lower-level admin that enables the child to change the look/feel of the blog (template, etc.) or otherwise do anything more than post, without also allowing them to completely admin the site. I want my child to be able to post a blog - she's 12 and has vast interest in it - but I want to have control over top-level things like who is notified when a comment is made, comment moderation, e-mail links, etc. I can't find a single service that provides this model. If you want the child to be able to 'make the blog their own,' visually, you have to give them top-level admin control, which isn't safe, IMHO.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5788854.post-20842553330164166732009-04-22T21:45:00.000-07:002009-04-22T21:45:00.000-07:00Go to 580 California Street in San Francisco.
